Remember | Alexander McQueen

1969-2010

The sudden passing of Lee Alexander McQueen is truly tragic and deeply saddening, not just for the fashion industry but indeed the world. McQueen, a successful iconic designer, avantgarde and courageous with his designs turned fashion and style on it's head and bravely fronted a new-wave in British fashion; causing every catwalk show to become a cirque as it were; a feast for the eyes of onlookers. Celebrities from the like of Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham and Sarah Jessica Parker have all sashayed in the celebrated flamboyance that was Alexander McQueen and tributes from all over the world have poured in to lament the great mind that the fashion world today lost. But while the death of McQueen is indeed harrowing, this surely serves as a poignant reminder for all, that riches, fame and glory are not tangible things that may preserve us alive. Rather being happy with oneself is the only definition for true success and contentment.

Rest in peace Alexander McQueen.

Vogue Verdict | March 2010

It's that time again people. The March edition of Vogue was a tad thicker than the other two issues but, I'm not complaining; although my shoulder feels like it's going to rip each time I pick it up. But it's fashion I guess! Anyhow, this month the eclectic Brit-girl Alexa Chung graces the cover in fantastic Chanel clogs and features inside banging on about the universal appeal of the wardrobe staple that is denim. Elsewhere, artist Tracey Emin relates her experiences designing her famous abstract quilts; a very interesting read for quilt-lovers and art fanatics alike. Models Sasha Pivovarova, Freja Beha Erichsen, Raquel Zimmerman and Patricia van der Vliet make appearances in several spreads documenting the delightful S/S '10 trends - check the pics below and tell me these girls are not killing it! Aside from these though, my favourite article this month was Power and glamour: can women have both? which followed the powerful and glamorous women of our era and of times gone by. The eternal mademoiselle Coco Chanel, political glamazons Michelle Obama and Sarah Cameron as well as royals Princess Diana and our very own Queen Elizabeth II encapusalate the term Powerhouse Women; fierce, sophiscated and admirable to all: young and old alike.

All in all, this month's edition is packed with goodies to read, editorials to gawp at and various talking points! On sale nationwide now! (and the price has gone up by 10p as well... curse you VAT!)

Put You On | A Place for Rocky Nti!

Sometime last week, I stumbled across this new artist on Facebook by the name of Rocky Nti. I was intrigued as to what he was singing about, clicked the video and was left astounded; his self-written song No Place For A Gentleman from his upcoming EP Six Strings Tuned To The Heart (such a beautiful album title, dontcha' think?) is amaaaazzzing. His somewhat effortless lyricism conveys a simple but potent message and his eclectic singing style easily invites listeners to lend their ears in this particular song. But for me personally, it was the acoustic guitar arrangement and the sheer innocence and sincerity of the video that captured me and converted me into a bonfide fan. Please, be on the lookout for Rocky Nti this year, I'm 100% certain he is gonna blow up. And if he doesnt... well. I'll blow you guys up, American Terrorist style! See the video for No Place For A Gentleman below as well as the links to his MySpace and Twitter pages!

L'Introspective | Lost In Translation

Quite literally actually. It's fifteen minutes until tomorrow and I'm sitting here at the computer, tapping away at my French grammar assignment with a bowl of Nesquik cereal. I've got my hip-hop playlist on shuffle on my iTunes and Sunshine by Lupe Fiasco is playing. This indeed, is what one may call multi-tasking. Apparently, women do it the best. I just do it 'cause I find it hard to devote my mind to one single thing at any given time. Which is why I take sweets with me into exams so I can concentrate on those. Pah.

Anyhow.

Fashion | Zara S/S'10 Collection

So this year, my favourite high street retailer, Spanish fashion giants Zara, decided to kill me. Have you seen their Spring/Summer '10 collection? It's so homicidal, it's unbelievable. Peer through and have a look for yourself if you don't believe me.
